We are students of the State Junior High School No. 1 in
Żagań, which was estabished in 1999. Its first headmistress was Mrs. Wiesława
Czernichowska-Szulc. On the 13th of May 2004 the school was named after Dorota,
the duchess of Żagań.
Duchess Dorota de Talleyrand-Perigord, whose name was given
to our school, was born on the 21st of August 1793 in Berlin and died on the
19th of September 1862 in Żagań. She was the Duchess of Courland, Duchess of
Żagań, Duchess of Dino a politician and patron of the arts. She was born as the
fourth daughter of Peter von Biron and Dorothy von Medem. She was then married
to Edmont de Talleyrand and had three chidren.
We have been carrying out a project on Duchess Dorothy and
our junior high school. We have decided to include information, curiosities or
